When is the best time to come?

Any time is a great time for striper fishing on Lake Ouachita. The difference is how you catch the fish. Many people prefer the top-water action of cooler months, and some prefer the deep water tug-of-war that becomes the pattern in June and the hotter months. In times where the stripers are feeding on top,  we will troll with large live shad and listen for the tell-tale slap of the water as the shad tries to become airborne to avoid a striper circling underneath him.

Once the water gets around 80 degrees, the striper fishing changes. The fishing becomes much more like deep sea fishing, in that you will use weights to carry the shad down to the stripers suspending above the tree tops. Lake Ouachita is a very deep lake, and in some areas you will have to pull fish up from 80 feet of water or more. Many times the strike can actually be seen on the depth finder.


Who should come striper fishing?

ANYONE. Young or old. No casting is required, and the reels and line are set to handle the fish perfectly. All you need is some determination and the ability to reel. Striper fishing is extremely rewarding to anyone, and the captain makes every effort to ensure that your trip is comfortable, clean, and most of all, a lot of fun.
